Astro-World Installation INSTALLATION OF THE DISK-VERSION ******************************** To install Astro-World, run windows. It is recommended that no other programs (THIS INCLUDES ANY ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE) are running while the installation takes place, which is just good practice. Insert Setup disk #1 into the floppy drive and from the Program Manager, click File and then Run. Type A:\Setup (or B:\Setup if you using the B: drive). The setup will ask if you wish to install the software on C:\ASTRO22E (you can type in the drive and directory of your choice here). Click OK and insert disk #2 when asked to do so. After installing the program, it is absolutely necessary to integrate the Astro-Font into the list of installed fonts: It contains the symbols of the Zodiacal Signs and the Planets. If you forget to install this font, you'll find ordinary letters instead of Planets and Zodiacal Signs on your print-out! INSTALLATION OF THE BBS VERSION ******************************** The whole package consists of two disks but will be uploaded as physically *ONE* file which contains both ‘disks’ To install the downloaded image, copy the file into a temporary directory (e.g.: C:\Temp) and unpack it with: PKUNZIP -d -o aw222e.zip The option "-d" is mandatory to insure that the files are being unpacked to the according "disk"-directory. After unpacking you should have: C:\Temp\Disk1 and C:\Temp\Disk2 Now you can start the program C:\Temp\Disk1\Setup.EXE from Windows (not out of a DOS-Box!). If you work with the program WinZip 6.0 from Nico Mac Computing, unpacking is even easier: * Open AW222e.zip * Click on EXTRACT * In the field "Extract To:" enter the directory-name "C:\Temp" * Activate (check) the options "Overwrite Existing Files" and "Use Directory Names" INSTALLATION OF THE ASTRO-FONT ****************************** To install the Astro font, proceed as follows: If you are still using Windows 3.1, Start the Control Panel out of the Windows Program Manager. As Windows 95 user you click on the Start button and choose "Settings" and "Control Panel" 1 Choose the menu-item Fonts 2 Click the button Add 3 Choose the file, from the directory in which you have installed Astro World (the default is C:\ASTRO22E). 4 If you have chosen the correct directory, the desired font: Astro (TrueType) appears in the upper box under List of fonts. Click on Select All and then OK. 5 The font will be installed and displayed in the font window. 6 The installation of Astro-Font is complete. Finally, click on Close. That's it! You will find a significant amount of information in the Help file (click on Help from within Astro-World). Please note that all of the text and Help files are being processed to accommodate US-English and will be re-released for version 2.2. Late notes: Old versions (before Mar 1, 1993) of SMARTDRV.SYS default to enable write-cache. This problem is not limited to AstroWorld. This can result in ASTRO.INI and database entries not being written to the disk properly and a loss of data if anything goes wrong. Recommendation: Update SMARTDRV.SYS, or disable the Write-cache with the option /X (SMARTDRV.SYS /X). Including additional Databases In order to integrate additional databases you should proceed as follows: 1) Put the diskette into floppy-disk drive A: 2) Select the menu-item File, then, Include Additional Locations. 3) Select the database of locations and confirm your selection with OK. The procedure may take several minutes. In case you are familiar with DOS, there is a faster method: - Copy the file from the diskette into a temporary directory on your hard-disk-drive (or better still a RAM-drive if you have set one up). - Select the menu-item Include Additional Locations. - Now the program will complain about there being no diskette in drive A. - Select Cancel. Now you will be asked for the file-name. Select the path and filename on your hard-disk-drive.
